Topic proposal

The topic I want to explore is the amount of recycling done at the university of Iowa. I personally don't think we recycle enough which is hurting our earth. I also think there should be a class or a 1 sh hour class thought about what is recyclable and what is compostable etc. I feel most people do not know so they just throw their garbage in whichever trash can. If the university of Iowa offered this it would educate us and ultimately help our campus as well as the earth. This topic interests me because although it could be a large topic I am choosing to just focus on the school I attend. I also work in a restaurant that does not recycle and it bugs me a great amount. in this speech, I am aiming to argue that we need to recycle and why recycle is so important. I believe we need to educate more people on this topic. here are some resources : http://www.recycling-guide.org.uk/importance.html https://www.earthsfriends.com/why-recycling-important/

Intro and methods

Does social media have negative effects on college students’ grades? Introduction              Social media is everywhere. The evolution of social media and the internet has brought a new age of interaction and is now in almost every aspect of our daily lives. While social media has given us new ways to share ideas, stay in touch, learn, and grow it has changed how we live our lives. There are of course positives and negatives to social media but one aspect in particular I was intrigued with was the negative effects on a college students’ grades. A survey was conducted asking college students what they thought about their social media use and their grades.              Many researchers have done studies similar. Three researchers Markus Appel, Caroline Marker, and Timo Gnambs took a closer look at the affects of social media and academic performance....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56b09ZyLaWk The commercial I choose is a commercial sponsored by Budweiser. It is called "Someone waits for you at home, Don't drink and drive." The audience is too anyone that drinks alcohol. Even if you don't own a car someone could ask you to drive them home using there car but the main purpose of this commercial is to make sure you don't. While under the influence you should never drive a car, regardless of the situation, it is putting you and someone else is danger. Every year there are so many deaths due to drinking and driving. This commercial in particular appeals to your emotions by showing a puppy and his owner spending time together and growing up. One night he leaves with friends to go out drinking and comes home the next day instead of at night. The puppy is sad he didn't return at night but is so excited in the morning. He choose to stay over at his friends and get home safely in the morning instead of risking hi...

8/20 Assignment 1 (Major Writing #1)

This assignment is asking us to broaden our horizons by familiarizing ourselves with the writing style our intended field demands of us. We have a chance to interview someone more experienced in our field and analyze writings similar to our chosen field of study. There are many outcomes to this assignment as we will be familiarizing ourselves with different type of genres, learning more about the disciplines to our interests, and giving us practice on how to write to a specific audience.  Some questions I might have are how to get in contact with the right person to interview if we have not yet declared a major? Also where we can go if we need additional help?
